Catalog Full Description

The growing field of early childhood education (birth through age 8) includes many different job opportunities. This advanced certificate is a terrific starting point to an early child development major or will help to upskill entry level child care workers. The coursework for this certificate might lead to a variety of career options including a child care teacher, an assistant director or director of a child care facility, a private preschool teacher, nanny, director of a preschool program, an elementary school assistant, or Head Start assistant. The child development program offers courses for those seeking application for their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential through the state of Michigan. The CDA credential is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education and is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement. LMC does not award the CDA credential, but information on requirements and application for the CDA can be found online at http://www.cdacouncil.org/credentials/applyfor-cda.
